Obituary

Shirley K. Merritts, age 80, of Roaring Spring, died Sunday afternoon 07/30/2023 at UPMC Altoona.  She was born in Altoona 05/13/1943 a daughter of the late William L. and Mary E. (Irwin) Harshbarger.  She was married to the late James T. Merritts.  Surviving are her daughters:  Nicole E. Merritts (Ryan) and Jaylene M. Hoover (Wade); grandchildren:  Rachel Filer (Justin), Caleb Merritts and Baron Dionis; 2 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren, and a sister, Sylvia Boyles.  Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, Melissa A. Merritts and a sister, Susan Pry.  She was a lifelong member of Hollidaysburg Church of the Brethren where served as a Deacon for many years and was soon to be honored as Deacon Emeritus.  Shirley retired as a hostess from Traditions Restaurant, Martinsburg.  Friends will received from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. Friday 08/04/2023 at the Hollidaysburg Church of the Brethren where a funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. by Pastor Linda Banaszak.  Internment in Leamersville Riverview Cemetery.
